When you want to escape from your office-life

and dive right into romance with a beautiful

woman… or Russel Crowe

“A Good Year” is a feel good movie for those evenings when you simply need relaxation and some simple entertainment. In other words this isn’t one of my favorite movies – yet I have seen it three times the past week. The story is simple and as close to the “escape” everyone plays with in their mind, at least at one point of their life. Who doesn’t feel tempted to throw their business hectic lifestyle, and sink all the way into wine, culture and love.

The Investment Broker Maximillian (Russell Crowe) learns that his uncle Henry (Albert Finney) died – the one person who seems to be Maxi’s only connection to a non materialistic lifestyle appreciating the finer things in life like playing tennis, chess, enjoying food, wine and the really good conversations in life. Assuming that he is the only relative left behind, Maxi rushes of to Provence to sell Henry’s chateau and wineyard. Fortunately nothings appears to go the way he expects, and it appears that Maxi understands that it’s not his personality which doesn’t fit with Provence, but his lifestyle. Childhood memories, love and his meeting with real people turns out to be Maximillian’s awakening.

Casting: Russel Crow (Maximillian Skinner), Albert Finney (Henry Skinner), Tom Hollander (Charlie) and Marion Cotillard (Fanny Chenal).
